CARICOM Energy Knowledge Hub

Welcome to the CARICOM Energy Knowledge Hub, an information and knowledge management framework developed to ensure that appropriate, reliable and high-quality information is available and accessible within the region.

The CEKH is addressing the data and information gaps currently existing in the region and enhances the efforts of regional decision makers.

The hub gives access to energy statistics and information required for energy planning, decision‑support and awareness building.

CARICOM Energy Knowledge Hub Beneficiaries

The CEKH has been developed for a variety of beneficiaries: government ministries, regulatory authorities, utilities, private sector clean energy developers, universities, and research institutions, international development partners and, civil society.

CEKH COMPONENTS

There are currently six components to the Knowledge Hub. These components are intended to support our communities of practice through knowledge creation and sharing across members and with other related and interested parties.

A fully functional Learning Management System (LMS) platform has been deployed to support the learning needs and course delivery across the membership. Courses will be hosted/facilitated online, blended or in-person.

A document repository – has been set up to allow groups and teams to share documents and collaborate. Document collections will be made available to private or public groups.

A community hub platform is available as part of the Knowledge Hub — this supports information and knowledge sharing across teams and groups and collaboration across organizations and with internal and external stakeholders.

The CCREEE Map viewer aims at improving access to data and geographic information about renewable energy services and the energy system in the CARICOM Member States

The Resources repository contains curated renewable energy and energy efficiency content gathered from our partners across the region.

The Data Portal is an integrated data repository comprising of native databases and interconnections to other sustainable energy databases.

OUR COMMUNITY

The knowledge hub is designed to support the work of the following four groups in our community.

To join our community, click here to register. Already registered, click here to login.

General Public

Data and information for academia with non-energy related expertise, students and a general audience

Academics

Faculty and Students conducting studies and research in renewable energy and energy efficiency

Project Developers

Data and information for project developers, renewable energy associations, academia with energy-related expertise

Energy Sector Personnel

Renewable energy and energy efficiency linked indicators, dynamic energy flows, energy balances and other information needed on a day-to-day basis by officials in energy ministries, regulators and utilities

Other Programme Highlights

PPF

The Caribbean region is endowed with a wide variety of renewable resources from where clean energy can be harnessed but are currently underexploited. Although investment in sustainable energy infrastructure and technologies is growing in the region, the stunted growth will not ensure that the regional and national targets and goals are achieved.

IRRP

An IRRP is a plan for how a country can supply its need for electricity for the foreseeable future. IRRPs are integrated because they consider many different resources to satisfy the need for electric power. These resources include power plants (diesel engines, gas turbines and hydro power plants etc.) and renewable energy sources, like solar farms, wind farms and geothermal power plants.

PARTNERS

The CEKH partners with information providers to improve access to information. This includes the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE) regarding the provision of appropriate data management methodologies, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) regarding the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Activity Database (R3EAD) and the CARICOM Regional Organization for Standards and Quality (CROSQ) for new databases related to energy standards and equipment testing.
