Natural Gas and the Clean Energy Transition

In the clean energy transition, the value of natural gas infrastructure is very important for operating the energy system. Gas-fired power plants contribute to optimized energy systems when they are designed to operate flexibly, responding to demand patterns and the variable supply of renewable energy. Smart electricity grids, renewable energy, battery storage technology, and gas-fired power plants in combination will generally be the lowest cost, low-carbon solution to the growing energy requirements of emerging markets. Private investors and financiers are responding to these opportunities, but the full potential will only be reached with improvements in policy, regulation, and procurement in...

National Policy for the Adaptation to Climate Change (Bahamas)

The Government of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas accepts the findings of the Inter-Governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and of other expert scientific bodies, that global temperatures are increasing due to the release of so-called “greenhouse gases” (GHGs) into the atmosphere as a result of the burning of fossil fuels and other human activities. Government further accepts the scientific predictions that this trend of global warming is likely to continue for several decades, even if the causative activities were to cease immediately. National energy efficiency monitoring report of Trinidad and Tobago

Trinidad and Tobago is heavily dependent on its oil and gas sector to support its economy and society. However, given the challenge of climate change, small economies of scale, and increased economic, social and environmental vulnerability, strategies are needed to ensure long-term sustainable development. A key aspect to be considered is the greater potential for the implementation of energy efficiency measurements, which would allow for energy security in the long term, a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and increased revenue and cost savings. In this report, the methodology of the Energy Efficiency Indicators Database (BIEE) is set out in chapter...
